Mariana Caplan is a psychotherapist, yoga teacher, and the author of numerous magazine articles and books in the fields of psychology and spirituality, including Eyes Wide Open: Cultivating Discernment on the Spiritual Path; Halfway Up the Mountain: the Error of Premature Claims to Enlightenment; and The Guru Question: The Perils and Rewards of Choosing a Spiritual Teacher. Her latest book, Yoga & Psyche, is the subject of this, our second interview with her. Mariana teaches workshops at major retreat centers, yoga studios, and universities throughout the world and has been an adjunct professor at The California Institute of Integral Studies since 2001. In her psychotherapy, she incorporates traditional and alternative approaches including: psychodynamic, gestalt, cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic, and dialectical behavioral therapy.
