Peter Booth
Peter Booth is a scholar and translator of the 14th Century Persian poet Hafiz. A member of the DC-area Iranian Culture Association (Kanoon Iran), he studied Sanskrit and sacred Indian texts at Georgetown University, received a B.A. in English Literature from Bard College, and attended Harvard Graduate School in Persian Language and Literature. He then studied Persian Literature at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in Iran. For 32 years he was a resident in Avatar Meher Baba’s home, Meherabad, in rural India, where he helped build water and electrical systems, roads, and other infrastructure. He is currently completing a detailed study of Hafiz’s poetry, titled The Incomparable Hafiz. Peter is also a contributor to the new book, The Illuminated Hafiz: Love Poems for the Journey to Light.
